What is the UltraV Bottle™?

The UltraV Bottle™ is a double-walled stainless steel water bottle with a UV-C light built into the cap. The bottle keeps drinks cold or hot the way any good vacuum flask does. The cap is the part that changes your habits: it fires a short burst of ultraviolet light into the chamber on a timer, and a longer burst when you ask for it, so the film of bacteria that normally builds up on the inside walls and around the mouthpiece never gets established.

Thirty days of ordinary use

The insulation is the easiest part to test, so I did it badly on purpose: filled it with ice water at 7am, left it in a car in direct sun, and drank the last of it after dinner. There was still ice. That is the kind of margin that makes you stop planning around your bottle.

The bottle runs a short cycle automatically every couple of hours and a longer cycle when you tap the cap twice, so the interior and the mouthpiece both get treated.

Does it filter or purify tap water?

No, and this matters. UV-C addresses biological contamination inside the bottle. It does not remove sediment, chlorine taste, lead or other chemical contaminants. If your concern is water chemistry rather than bottle odour, pair it with a filter jug at home.

Is the UV light safe to drink around?

The light only fires when the cap is closed and seated, and it is contained inside the chamber. You never look directly at the diode during normal use. Keep the cap on while a cycle is running, which is exactly how the interlock is designed to work.
